‘
We’ve
had quite a few requests for a chance to spend some time
with John going over the Somes Sound 12 1/2 plans, talking
through the project.
We’ve also heard that it would be very helpful to easily
and efficiently collect some of the materials for the SS
12.5, especially one key item:
585
pounds of lead.
So we thought that a weekend workshop
that combined these two might be helpful.
Our
idea: The workshop takes place over a weekend: two days to
go over plans, learn how to put the jig together, try some
useful techniques, and ask plenty of questions; we’ll also
talk about materials and supplies then load vehicles and
trailers for the trip home. You’ll gain the confidence to
build your boat, and get to hear the answers to a lot of
questions, not only yours but many that you will not have
thought of (at the time) since a group thinking together
can cover a lot of ideas creatively and thoroughly. You’ll
also save money on shipping, especially for that chunk of
lead (the quote we got for shipping the lead common carrier
to a home address is $200 to $300 for crating, then freight
charges of about $300 more or less, depending upon your
location.)
This will be real blast, an opportunity to ask John
everything you can think of, and connect with other
builders just like you, kindred spirits who are starting
their own boats. And our little part of Maine isn’t a half
bad place to visit, either.
NEW
