Sundog 12 fisherman’s skiff
(NEW PLAN ON THE DRAWING BOARD)

Sundog fisherman's skiff

This 12’ skiff is an excellent all-around design, derived from the classic skiffs that populate harbors all along the Maine coast. She’s perfect for exploring, fishing on salt or fresh water, ferrying people and gear, rowing with a friend (human or canine), floating at anchor with a good book, watching birds, catching pollywogs and jellyfish, enjoying sunsets and sunsets—and a few moonlit rows, too. She is sensible and stable and forgiving, but also agile, capable, and satisfyingly fun to row. She can also take a 2hp outboard or trolling motor. Her good manners make her a great family boat, one that will be fun for the kids from the time they’re very small people tucked in next to a parent until they’re off for the day with fishing rod or swim gear.

She has a 32” flat bottom and four planks per side. We’ll be developing this design with the aim of keeping her beautiful lines while also making her simple and straightforward to build. The plans will take the same step-by-step fully detailed approach as those for our Compass Harbor pram. If you’ve never built a boat before, or if you’re teaching folks who are learning, the plans and related materials will make building the Sundog skiff clear and rewarding.

We’ll be working on the plans for the Sundog skiff during the coming year. If you’d like us to let you know when the plans are done,
send us an email and we’ll put you on the list.
